Setting Up a Screen

This guide walks you through the complete process of adding a new screen in MenuPlat and connecting your display device (TV, monitor, or tablet) to it.

Screen connection

  • A display device (TV, monitor, tablet, PC) with Google Chrome installed
  • The device connected to the internet
  • Access to your MenuPlat dashboard

Step 1: Create the Screen in the Dashboard

Section titled “Step 1: Create the Screen in the Dashboard”
  1. In the left sidebar, click “Screens”
  2. Click “Add Screen” (or “New Screen”)
  3. Fill in the screen details:
FieldDescription
Screen NameA name to identify this screen (e.g., “Counter TV”, “Dining Area Left”)
StoreSelect which store/location this screen belongs to
  1. Click “Save” to create the screen

After saving, the screen appears in your Screens list with a status of “Unpaired” — it exists in the system but isn’t connected to a device yet.

Step 2: Open the Display URL on Your Device

Section titled “Step 2: Open the Display URL on Your Device”
  1. On your display device (TV/monitor), open Google Chrome
  2. Navigate to the display URL shown in your screen’s settings in the dashboard

The URL typically looks like:

https://display.menuplat.com/[your-screen-id]

You can find this URL by clicking on the screen in the dashboard.

When Chrome opens the display URL for the first time (or when the screen is unpaired), it shows a pairing code — a short alphanumeric code displayed prominently on screen.

The pairing code looks something like: A3B7X2

Step 4: Enter the Pairing Code in the Dashboard

Section titled “Step 4: Enter the Pairing Code in the Dashboard”
  1. Back in your MenuPlat dashboard, open the screen you just created
  2. Look for the “Pair Device” or “Enter Pairing Code” field
  3. Type the code shown on your display device
  4. Click “Pair” or “Connect”

The screen on your display device will immediately update to show it’s connected. The status in your dashboard changes to “Online”.

Your screen is now connected, but it won’t show any content until you assign a playlist:

  1. In the screen settings, find the “Playlist” field
  2. Select a playlist from the dropdown (you can create one in Dashboard → Playlists)
  3. Click “Save”

The display device will begin playing your playlist immediately.

Screen shows pairing code but dashboard says it’s offline:

  • Make sure both your dashboard device and the display device have internet access
  • Try refreshing the display URL on the display device to get a fresh pairing code
  • Ensure there are no firewall rules blocking the display device’s outbound connection

Pairing code expired:

  • Pairing codes refresh every few minutes. Check the display device for the current code.

Screen connected but showing blank:

  • Check that a playlist is assigned to the screen
  • Make sure the assigned playlist has at least one content item
