Creating Menu Items

Before your digital screens and QR menu can show your food and drink offerings, you need to add them as products in MenuPlat. This guide covers how to create categories and products.

Products page

It’s best to create your categories before adding products, so you can assign each product to a category as you create it.

  1. In the left sidebar, click “Categories”
  2. Click “Add Category”
  3. Enter the category name in English (and Turkish if you use both languages)
  4. Optionally upload a category image
  5. Set a sort order number (lower numbers appear first in the menu)
  6. Click “Save”

Repeat for each category. Typical categories might include:

  • Starters
  • Soups & Salads
  • Main Courses
  • Burgers
  • Pizzas
  • Sides
  • Hot Drinks
  • Cold Drinks
  • Desserts
  1. In the left sidebar, click “Products”
  2. Click “Add Product”
  3. Fill in the product details:

Name (EN)Product name in English
Name (TR)Product name in Turkish
Description (EN)Description in English (ingredients, allergens, etc.)

CategorySelect which category this product belongs to
StatusActive (visible) or Inactive (hidden)

Base PriceThe standard price of the item
Price TierIf using multiple price tiers, set the price per tier

Click “Upload Image” to add a photo of the dish. You can upload multiple images — the first one is used as the primary display image.

Recommended image specifications:

  • Format: JPG or PNG
  • Aspect ratio: 1:1 (square) or 4:3
  • Minimum size: 800×800 pixels

If this product comes in different sizes or options:

  1. Click “Add Variant Group”
  2. Name the variant group (e.g., “Size”, “Temperature”)
  3. Add the variant options (e.g., Small, Medium, Large)
  4. Set a price for each variant (can be the same or different from the base price)

Click “Save” to create the product.

After creating products, you can:

  • Edit a product by clicking its name in the Products list
  • Deactivate a product to hide it from the QR menu and screens without deleting it
  • Duplicate a product to quickly create a similar item
  • Filter by category using the category filter at the top of the Products list

For restaurants with large menus, you can use the CSV import feature to upload multiple products at once:

  1. Download the CSV template from Products → Import → Download Template
  2. Fill in your products in the spreadsheet
  3. Upload the completed CSV file
  • Always add photos — Products with photos get significantly more attention on QR menus
  • Write clear descriptions — Include key ingredients and allergen info
  • Use consistent naming — Keep product names consistent across languages
  • Keep descriptions concise — 1–2 sentences is ideal for QR menu readability
